The Iraq War Was Wrong Blog

The world has many wrongs, and many wars, but there's only one wrong Iraq war.

A note on terminology

I was watching Three Kings (good flick, but not enough action!) and I realized that something can cause confusion so I decided to clear up it.

When I say The Iraq War I mean the one we just fought, with George W. Bush as President. (The one that was wrong)

Yes (don't write letters!), I am aware there was another, different war involving Iraq once, when George H.W. Bush was President. But the name of that war is The Gulf War, and probably it was wrong too, but that's beyond the scope of this blog.

Which, to remind, is about The Iraq War. Being wrong.

P.S. Someone can feel free to create a sister blog about The Gulf War being wrong and I'd be happy to link to it. I like to stay focused here though.

I have just returned stateside from Iraq, specifically Mosul. I am a Captain in the USMC 3rd ID. What I saw on the streets of Iraq and what I see on the T.V. news reports here are polar opposites. I have seen women and children blown apart by weapons. However, not by the hands of US soldiers, but Iraqi husbands and fathers who defy the new freedom and refuse to allow their wives or children to attend school or otherwise express their new democratic lifestyles. I have regretfully killed fathers who were cutting off the hands and feet of their children. This apparently was an acceptable Islamic way to deal with children who were caught reading any book other than the Koran. I have fired upon vehicles being driven by husbands who were dragging the bodies of wives who registered to vote. Yes, I did these things in anger. I admit the videos of the beheadings gave me fuel for this anger. It also gave us a moral compass for what our goals in Iraq are. To believe that anyone can treat another human being that way is unimaginable. For peace advocates here to deny these atrocities enforces the fact that they have an agenda regardless of what evidence is brought to light. I have killed at least 200 enemy combatants that were actively trying to harm innocent people or tring to harm me. For that, I will not apologize. I will return to Iraq in 60 short days. I vow to kill as many radical, violent Jihadists as I can. Knowing that they exist is energizing. Knowing that worthless oxygen thieves lime the ones who cry out against the US involvement in Iraq yet are blind to the horror and sadistic killing that is taking place in the name of Jihad are despising me gives me energy as well. Maybe when we are finished in Iraq, we'll start with you. But no, because I am proud to know young men who have given all for your right of dissent. May you sleep well knowing we keep you safe even if you don't respect it or deserve it. C.M.Davis, Captain, USMC
