Take it down a notch Fridays (Sunday edition)

Many apolodgies to TIWWB readships, I have forgotten to Take it down a notch until now! Boy it's hard getting back into swing of things after semi official business type trip(different climate, hemisphere ect.)

Anyway, As many of you know, our minds are weightily preoccupied with the wrongness of the Iraq war the other six+ days of the week. In that spirit, on Fridays [but Sunday today] here at The Iraq War Was Wrong Blog we have always kicked back with some lighter notes on Fridays [i.e Sunday], and "taken it down a notch". We share stories of weirdness and whimsy, highlight the work of good and decent popular entertainers and rockers, laugh at humourous events and people, and point to amazing (non Iraq war related) stuff.

The day is a choice - the idea is important. Personally, I think bloggers and readers could all use more breaks like this from the (often negative) news of the week (about the wrongness of the Iraq war.) Take It Down A Notch Fridays began back in May, and I, personally, have (almost) always graciously agreed to respect and work within this Iraq War Was Wrong Blog tradition (which, I started). So, welcome to The Iraq War Was Wrong Blog... and Take it down a notch with me!

The Films Of Lindsay Lohan

Today I thought I'd discuss a subject near and dear to my heart, the Films of Linday Lohan. I have been a fan of Lindsay Lohan from way back. All of us are infact - me, Cyrus, Dorit, Phung. We've been getting together once every couple of weeks recently to view, discuss, and talk about Lindsay Lohan and her Films. (Preferably DVD's - gotta see those extra seens!)

We even call (kind of jokingly - heh) our selfs ``The Lohanim''. (Dorit says this is a kind of a play on words in some other language (hard to explain).

Here are mini reviews of the Lindsay Lohan films I'm have seen.

First off there's (of COURSE) Freaky Friday. This is a mind-bending science fiction tale about how one day (a Friday (we assume)? Lohan, a teen age rocker daughter, switches places with her mother (Jamie lee Curits). (Due to Chinese Magic). And pandemonium insues. It is a flat out rollicking free flowing jolly good. Good music too (pop punk - but girls). (Disney friendly). I had seen the Jodie Foster original so I was prepared for alot going in (didn't have to have the premisse explained to me - I "got it" from the beginning on my own) but I was relly surprised at how much of the plot I'd (apparently) forgotten. Thumbs up.

The Parent Trap starring Lindsay and her twin sister - haven't seen. Though I'm not sure ANYTHING could compare to the original with pop gem, "Let's Get Together (Yeah Yeah Yeah)". A true classic. One of the most catchiest tunes you're ever going to find. Infact I"m singing it in my head right now (Let's get together yeah yeah yeah, we can have a swinging ti-ime, let's get together yeah yeah yeah (&c.). GREAT movie (stars teacher from Saved by the bell).

More recently we saw Mean Girls over Thai food and let me just say. This is some good commentary about Clieques (Fr.) and the hardship's of trying to fit-in in the high school world. (BOY can I relate - dont ask). Written by the BEST one from SNL (a show which I NEVER miss - it's is Parody (intelligent) Tina Fay. (She also plays Lindsay's rather homely teacher). Lindsay looks much more stylish here (less baby fat). There is helarious hi-jinx galore. There is a SWEET rap by Lindsay's math friend. There is some suttle digs at homeschoooled kids (WEIRDOS). There is the small kid from Party of 5. (All grown up)(looks rather disconcerting to see her not a kid anymore- make feel old). This Film has everything.

Lindsay Lohan - one of America's treasures. Now that I've wetted you're appetite, wouldn't you like to form your own local ``Lohanim'' club today?

I think you present a very strong argument against home schooling. As a member of the Teacher's Union (NEA), I can say without fear of controdiction that it's dangerous.

Before you ask, yes, I'm voting for JOHN KERRY because as an educator, I also know the Iraq war is wrong. We all know (wink, wink) that JOHN KERRY knows the war is wrong too, and will withdraw our innocent children and daughters and pre-operative cross-gendered persons from Iraq as soon as he gets the chance, no matter what he's forced to say in the debates right now in order to win the election.

If I believed in God, I would pray to him/her every day for John Kerry's victory. For those of you who do believe in him/her, I hope you are (do). This election is too important.

Please don't stereotype me as a liberal just because I'm a teacher and belong to the Union. I am just an concerned average American. Of course I was an (alternate) delegate to the Democratic Convention (for Howard Dean-the Dennis Kucinich roster was full), but I find it shameful and dispicable that ultra-conservatives like John Ashcroft make slanderous judgements about the political leanings of educator/union members while they erode our civil rights through the so-called Patriot Act, destroy the environment, and try to turn back the clock on a Woman's Right to Choose.

As a matter of fact, one of our union members (name withheld) at my junior high school (name withheld) in the Business Arts department is a Republican who continues to support John McCain. We teachers know the importance of diversity, even though my husband left me and our troubled (ADD, vandalism, some torturing of small animals) son Chad for a real estate agent who had a Bush-Cheney (may they burn in hell, and her too, if there is one) sticker on her BMW.

Keep up the good work, Mr. Proprietor of the Iraq War Was Wrong Blog. I'm tempted to take my red pen to your essays, LOL, but it's my committed belief and professional opinion that what my pupils say is far, far more important than their ability to express it and my ability to educate them, especially when they are right about such essential issues.

Sincerely,
Susan (last name withheld unfortunately due to Patriot Act)

Anon,

When it comes to The Iraq War, I have always had one position - ONE POSITION.

That's ONE (count'em). 1.

In short, I've had ONE POSITION - one (1). ALWAYS.

To summerize,

One (1) singular position - every little step I take.

Thank's for inquiry,

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for asking my opinion. Even in this day and age, women and minorities aren't asked their opinion nearly often enough from the, let's face it, white male power structrure.

As an educator, I know the Iraq War is wrong. In fact, I don't know a single educator who doesn't know the Iraq War is wrong, except maybe for Paul in the Business Arts department, who always keeps silent in the faculty lounge when we discuss just how wrong this war really is.

Even my son Chad is against it, although sometimes I need to re-educate him because he gets confused after he spends Sundays with his father and that real estate woman.

Susan, Our edjucators are doing a fine job of edjucating the children as I found out yesterday after noon. The doorbell rang and there stood a mother a father and a six year old child (maybe you're student?) who were there to remind me to turn out the vote and to vote for the right man (Kery, right meaning correct here, not facsist) (Bush is that right (facsist) man).

So I said I'm going too vote 110% for sure and pull the Kery lever (also 110% for sure)(I used such a high percentage so their data entry would look reel good) and why dont they go on to some other neighbors who might be undeicided (who could be? relly). But they were in the zone and still encouraging me.

The mother said If we don't stop invading evry country in the wyrld, noone will like us anymore. And the six year old said he learned that in kinder garden. And then the six year old started shouting Haliburtin, Haliburtin, how about Haliburtin. The parents was proud of him and we all smiled. He was as cute as one of those little yappy dogs, jumping and spinning and shouting Haliburtin. Like Jesus said (I'm para phrasing here) (from memri) A smart little child is going to lead us. (i'ts funny to use Jesus words against the Reputzis for a change). And it takes good teachers like you Susan to make the childsren so smart.
